Origin of the event we called

"The Austin Mom Prom"

March, 2011:

Rebecca was intrigued with the idea of a "Mom Prom", and thought it would be a perfect fit for Austin's weird culture... Here's a news story about the original "Mom Prom" in Canton, MI:

The inter-webs confirmed that "Mom Proms" were sprouting up all over the country. Rebecca mentioned it to Lynne one day, and Lynne thought it sounded like a great idea for Austin. Given that Planned Parenthood was all over the news, we chose PP as our potential charity beneficiary.

A flurry of emails were sent, calls were made, and once the Allan House generously donated their venue for the event, the party planning just snowballed!

Victoria, Dreya, Celeste, and Kit jumped on board the "goddess crew", and we put together an Evite and a preliminary guest list.

Within a couple of weeks, we had over 300 guests on the list, just through word of mouth! The event started to take on a life of its own...

Various vendors responded to our donation requests with generous offers of food, cupcakes, DJ services, bartending service...

It was an amazing evening! Lots of goodwill and cheer, and crazy dancing.

AND BEST OF ALL, WE WERE ABLE TO PRESENT SARAH WHEAT WITH A BIG PINK CHECK FOR $1200.00!!!
